Houston Astros

The Houston Astros were known for their colorful uniforms back in the day, the "rainbow uniforms" as they were known as, later referred to as "tequilla sunrise". In 1982, the Astros introduced their greatest uniform as a Sunday alternate, it included rainbow colored racing stripes on the pullover jersey and a single navy stripe down the side of the sansabelt baseball pants, great looking athletic wear that we now know as the Ultimate Baseball Look! In 1987 it became the Astros' primary uniform. The last year the Astros wore athletic wear was 1988, the following year, nonsensical buttons and belts were introduced. To grow the game, the Astros should wear these uniforms again. The Astros' current look is boring, the Ultimate Baseball Look isn't. Nolan Ryan, Kevin Bass, Gerald Young and Craig Biggio in the Astros' greatest uniform along with former coach Yogi Berra and Kenny Lofton in the Astros' greatest BP jersey which should be brought back as a double knit alternate. Some Jose Cruz fans want the Houston Astros to wear real baseball uniforms again! The final picture is Montreal educator Stephen Russell with Biggio in 1988.

Minnesota Twins - Rod Carew

Rod Carew wore Minnesota Twins athletic wear from 1972-78. Pullover jerseys and sansabelt baseball pants, what we now call the Ultimate Baseball Look! The Twins began wearing powder blue road uniforms in 1973. Rod Carew in 1972, wearing an off-white road uniform, that in the Dressed to the Nines Database was depicted as containing a button-front shirt, but that is clearly a pullover jersey. In Twins powder blues and on a 1977 cover of Time magazine, and telling Ted Williams "No, you cannot try on my athletic wear!". Proper baseball uniforms don't have buttons or belts! Rod Carew also posed with former Negro Leaguers Cool Papa Bell and Judy Johnson at the 1977 Hall of Fame Game in Cooperstown, New York.

California Angels 1973-88

The greatest uniforms in the history of the California Angels franchise were worn from 1973-88, and even into spring training in 1989! A very comsistent style that only saw a small alteration to the sleeve trim in 1979. V-neck pullover jerseys and sansabelt baseball pants with striped waistbands, the Ultimate Baseball Look during the Golden Age of the Baseball Uniform! The look of Fred Lynn, Don Baylor, Reggie Jackson and Rod Carew! Also the look of Nolan Ryan and Bob Boone as well! Arnold Schwarzenegger and Brian Downing found common ground in the California Angels uniforms. Nolan Ryan could perform his workouts wearing his California Angels uniform! That's why pullover jerseys and sansabelt baseball pants are called athletic wear! Arte Moreno, grow the game and bring these uniforms back once again! The Angels' best uniforms!

Hawaii Islanders

I believe this is the last uniform the former minor league team, the Hawaii Islanders ever wore. They sure saved the best for last! V-neck pullover jersey with racing stripes and sansabelt baseball pants, great looking baseball athletic wear, the Ultimate Baseball Look! Bring that team back, bring the uniform back and grow the game! No buttons, no belt, no problem, just the evolution of the baseball uniform!

Alaska Goldpanners 1987-94

The Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks, the first summer collegiate team to play in Alaska, their first season was in 1960 once wore athletic wear. The Goldpanners have had several hundred former players go on to play in the Majors including Seaver, Winfield etc. IMHO, they wore their greatest uniforms from 1987-1994. That uniform consisted of a v-neck pullover jersey, with both racing stripes and pinstripes and sansabelt baseball pants! The Goldpanners need to bring that uniform back, or at least update it. I would personally replace the red pinstripes with navy ones. That would be some classy athletic wear, the Ultimate Baseball Look! 1990 Goldpanners featuring Jason Giambi, Bret Boone in 1988 and Jacque Jones in 1994 all wore this uniform.

San Diego Padres 1980-83

I'm hesitant to refer to anything related to the San Diego Padres as the Ultimate Baseball Look, but I think the closest that franchise came to achieving the pinnacle of baseball aesthetics was with their 1980-83 uniforms. Pullover jerseys, sansabelt baseball pants with a brown, orange and yellow color scheme. Padres fans are apparently into it to this day. Here is the late great Tony Gwynn, Steve Garvey and Ozzie Smith in 1980-83 San Diego Padres uniforms, the 1981 San Diego Padres pose in front of the Star of India, a Walter Helfer 1981 illustration of the only San Diego Padres uniform we want, need or require and the 1983 San Diego Padres yearbook with Steve Garvey and Dick Williams on the cover. Apart from the cap, those uniforms actually aren't bad and I would endorse the Padres regularly wearing them once again. I like the yellow sanitary socks as well, another reason why baseball pants should never be overlooked when judging a baseball uniform's merits. Caps, jerseys, pants, stirrups and sanitary socks are all part of a baseball uniform. Plus, the A's shouldn't be the only baseball team that wears white spikes.

Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs' greatest home uniform was worn from 1979-89 and included a pullover jersey and sansabelt baseball pants, real athletic wear now known as the Ultimate Baseball Look! The Chicago Cubs' greatest road uniform was worn from 1982-89, it included a blue pullover jersey and white sansabelt baseball pants, real athletic wear, the Ultimate Baseball Look! The Cubs need to wear these uniforms once again! Here's Ryne Sandberg, Andre Dawson, Greg Maddux, Bruce Sutter, former manager Don Zimmer, Fergie Jenkins and Billy Williams, Ryne Sandberg, Andre Dawson and Ernie Banks before the first night game at Wrigley Field, in the Chicago Cubs' greatest home and road uniforms, the Ultimate Baseball Look! The Cubs even had good home uniforms in the mid 1970s during the brief Bill Madlock era as well. Dennis Eckersley has stated that the most comfortable baseball uniform he wore was the Chicago Cubs'. Ernie Banks wore the Cubs' first real uniform as a coach in 1972. The time is right for the Chicago Cubs and every other team to wear pullover jerseys and sansabelt baseball pants again, this is what both the fans and the players want! I think the Cubs' 1982-89 road uniform, with the blue v-neck pullover jersey and the white baseball pants with the striped waistband is the best in franchise history. Most of the people who throw out terms like "softball top" or "softball jersey" have neither softball or baseball playing experience.

LSU Tigers

Could this be a vintage LSU Tigers baseball uniform? Pullover jersey with racing stripes and sansabelt baseball pants. This is the Ultimate Baseball Look from the Golden Age of the Baseball Uniform! Real athletic wear. LSU Tigers, wear this uniform again and make college baseball a national sport!
